Tuberculosis and your oral health

How can tuberculosis affect your oral health?

People with tuberculosis may have large lymph nodes in their neck or they may even have some painful sores in their mouth. If you have tuberculosis then you may also risk spreading the disease at the dental clinic. In this case, you should not visit the dental clinic.

If you need emergency dental care then you should visit a hospital and ask if you could get dental treatment there. If your tuberculosis is not active then you can visit your dentist. You can find out whether your tuberculosis is active or not through a saliva or sputum culture.
